Introduction

Online learning is becoming increasingly popular as organisations become leaner and staff become more computer literate. Computer based learning platforms are now a common feature within all schools, colleges and universities enabling a new workforce that is comfortable with the concept of accessing learning and information via their computer at work and home. Until recently, the purchase and development of e-learning packages and the web systems to support them has been expensive and required dedicated e-learning designers. Optimus Associates have explored this area of learning and developed cost–effective solutions that are within the reach of any size of organisation and do not require any specialist hardware or changes to the existing computer system.

Publishing

On our website
We can host your e-learning packages and documents within a dedicated section of our own website with access via a login and password that is unique to your own organisation. If required, our administration software can keep a track of when packages have been accessed and by which user. Users can have a weblink that takes them straight to the dedicated site without going through our home page.

On your own system
E-learning packages can be published so they can be placed on your own system whether this is a large intranet with a learning platform or a simple server based network in a small office. The packages can also be placed within your own website. Administration of updates and tracking the use of packages will depend upon your local set-up.

On portable media or single PC
E-Learning packages can also be published to a CD or DVD ROM, a Flashdrive or installed on a single computer, although there may be limitations on the size of some packages depending upon the memory and speed of the computer.

Branding
Packages, documents and dedicated sections of the website can be branded with your own corporate logo, colour scheme and preferred fonts.

Range of packages

Interactive Presentations
Based upon the format of PowerPoint, packages can be designed to provide information about any topic for your own personnel or clients. These can include basic text, moving graphics, photographs, video and sound. Users can interact with the package and respond to on-screen questions and options, search for key words and access FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions). More sophisticated packages can branch off into sub-topics depending upon the choices made by the user. Users can interrupt the package and it will return them to the point they left or the package can be locked, requiring completion before closing.

Learning Games and Quizzes
Most people learn when they have fun and are achieving things. We can develop online  learning games and quizzes that can be used to consolidate learning, confirm understanding and test knowledge. These can be purely for fun or they can be time-limited providing a score and recording the choices for reviewing later. Quizzes and games can also be integrated within a learning package. Quizzes are a good way of ensure your staff understand critical information and the results can provide evidence of compliance for areas such as induction and external inspection.

Surveys
On-line surveys can be developed to collect information  and opinions for collating and reporting back. These can include several formats of response including multiple choice and open-ended response.

Attachments
Learning packages can include attachments and weblinks so that any documentation relating to the topic can be downloaded from within the package.

Learning Libraries
We can also host and set up learning libraries of information and documents that your staff may wish to access as a resource for guidance and further learning.

Video and Audio
Our learning packages can include video and audio or they can be produced as standalone files for access remotely and via podcasts. We can also produce video and audio material tailored to your organisation.
